Well I also had the same set of questions when I started blogging.
At first I wasn’t getting any traffic at all.Infact my blog was not even indexed in google.Then I realized that I should submit ma site to search engines. Still I was not any getting visitors to my site. Then I submitted ma blog to different blog directories.Infact this worked a bit.

Now I will discuss the tricks to get good traffic for your blog

1. Submit your blog to all search engines: You can submit to all major search engines such as google, yahoo, Bing etc .you can try this site www.submitexpress.com/free-submission.html for submitting your website to more than 70 search engines.

2. Social Networking websites: I hope all will be having their facebook, orkut, twitter, google plus account. You can share your posts in these websites to get decent amount of traffic.

3. Use the right keywords: This is the most important thing you need to consider while writing a post. You should make your title lengthier to catch search engines attention. Using the right keyword helped a lot for me.

4. Comments: You can also comment about your blog post in other similar blogs. In this way you can add back links to your blog in other sites and thereby increase traffic

5. Post frequently: You should write posts frequently in order for   search engine crawlers to update your site frequently.

6. Add share button: As you can see, in ma blog I have a share button that allows visitors to share this post in their favourite social networking site. By sharing their friends also visit our blog and in this way we can increase traffic. Also you can add facebook like button in to your blog.
